Course Overview

Targeted therapies represent a new generation of cancer treatment. While there is much enthusiasm for these novel agents, patients can develop novel toxicities, which may influence adherence to treatment and clinical outcome. Early recognition and subsequent management of these adverse events is vitally important to prevent interruption of care, and most importantly, life-threatening outcomes.

Through lecture and panel discussion, this educational activity will examine the role of targeted therapies in the management of breast and gynecologic cancers, and provide a concise review of the current literature on PARP inhibitors, cyclin-dependent kinase inhibitors, and checkpoint inhibitors. It will also address the identification and management of immune-related toxicities.

Learning Objectives

At the conclusion of this course, participants will be able to:

1. Describe the role PARP inhibitors in the management of breast and ovarian cancer
2. Review the recent literature of cyclin-dependent kinase inhibitors in the management of patients with breast cancer
3. Assess the management of novel toxicities associated with PARP inhibitor, cyclin dependent kinase inhibitors, and checkpoint inhibitors

Target Audience

The activity is designed for medical oncologists, gynecologic oncologists, radiation oncologists, primary care physicians, physician assistants, nurse practitioners, and other interested providers.
